Get self-hypnotized – Simultala

A Solitary Ride into History and Hills –

During my posting in Suri, of Birbhum district, West Bengal, I embarked upon a solo motorcycle journey—one that would become a quiet ode to exploration and reflection. Drawn by scattered mentions across blogs and travelogues, I grew increasingly fond of the region’s understated charm. What began as curiosity soon deepened into admiration.

Simultala (District Jamui – Bihar) and its surrounding landscape once served as a summer refuge for affluent Bengalis during the British era. Its temperate climate, undulating hills, and serene valleys offered a welcome escape from the oppressive heat of the plains. Even today, the air carries whispers of that bygone elegance—of leisurely retreats, shaded verandas, and the quiet rhythm of life unhurried.

Riding through this terrain, I felt the subtle convergence of geography and memory. The road wound through history, and each turn seemed to echo with stories of relaxation, rejuvenation, and quiet contemplation. It was not just a journey through space, but through time.

How to reach – well connected by rail and roads, it can be easily reached.

Where to stay – I stayed at Anya Resort at Simultala. Simultala also hosts a handful of other resorts and guesthouses, each catering to different tastes and budgets. For those seeking a deeper connection with the past, accommodations can be arranged in some of the old grand buildings—remnants of a bygone era when Simultala was a coveted summer retreat for Bengal’s elite. These heritage structures, with their high ceilings, vintage furniture, and colonial architecture, offer not just shelter but a sensory immersion into history.

Whether one prefers the curated luxury of a resort or the nostalgic charm of an ancestral bungalow, Simultala welcomes with quiet grace.

How to move around – I befrinded with one auto-rickshaw driver and it was very convenient for me to move around. He practically guided me to various places in and around simultala. Taking auto-rickshaw is the best option as one can slowly move and see places at great convenience.

What to expect – Lattu pahar is the prominent place where you can see remenants of Naldanga palace. Durgeshgorer Guptodhon – a Bengali film was shot at this place. My youtube travel blog depicts my journey –
